Research

I run the Family Support for Sexual and Gender Minority Youth Lab at Southern Oregon University, where I work on research that aims to equip parents with tools to support their LGBTQ+ children. Over the years, my colleagues and I have also worked on intervention research to reduce internalized sexual orientation and gender identity stigma (that is, negative beliefs about one’s own sexual orientation or gender identity), affirming therapy practices for people who are questioning their sexual orientation, and interactions between LGBTQ+ people and law enforcement. Below are links to selected publications:

“An online intervention to promote predictors of supportive parenting for sexual minority youth.” Journal of Family Psychology.

“First do no harm: Principles of care for clients with sexual orientation confusion and/or conflict.” Psychotherapy.

“Parent support for same-sex relationships: Considerations for clinical work and intervention research.” Couple and Family Psychology: Research and Practice.

“Reducing internalized binegativity: Development and efficacy of an online intervention.” Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity.

“Reducing internalized transnegativity: Randomized controlled trial of an online intervention.” Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity.
